The Dec 13th Issue ran an article titled “Passenger Rail”, it would have been nice if the article included facts such as: Since Amtrak’s inception in 1971, it has received approx. $94 Billion in federal funds, and it has had approx. 750 million passengers over that same time.
When you start doing math on the history of Amtrak’s federal funding it almost looks like a boondoggle. In some of the major metropolitan areas it might make sense but I don’t think passenger rail is a wise use of taxpayer monies.
